Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient health care discipline that originated more than 4,000 years ago. Central to this system of medicine is correcting the balance of Qi (“chi”). Acupuncture is used effectively to relieve the discomfort associated with many Western medical conditions and in the treatment, as well as prevention, of disease.
Qi is considered to be the vital force of life which flows through the body. It influences all life activities and helps maintain the healthy operation of the organism. When Qi fails to move freely, the result is physical, emotional or spiritual disharmony with accompanying symptoms.
Acupuncture is performed by inserting ultra thin, pre-sterilized, disposable needles into specific points on the body. There is usually little or no sensation upon insertion but later tingling or mild pressure may develop at the site or elsewhere. This indicates the presence of Qi. Patients usually enter a state of deep relaxation during the time that the needles are in place.
Community Acupuncture
Our Community Acupuncture Room provides patients two important benefits:
Access to Affordable Treatment and The Power of Community Energy
Acupuncture has been a community based medicine for most of its long history. In Asia, acupuncture has traditionally been practiced in group, rather than individual, settings. Here in the West, Acupuncture has developed into a paradigm of one-on-one treatments. Private treatments are a luxury but truly not a necessity. The cost of one-on-one care can prohibit regular treatment for many, decreasing treatment efficacy. For acupuncture to be most effective, patients need to receive treatment frequently and regularly.
Our Community Acupuncture Room represents a return to tradition. Our Community Acupuncturists focus on using "distal" points (below the knee and elbow, and on the head and neck) so that patients can remain fully clothed during treatment. Our zero gravity chairs provide a nest of comfort enabling clients to relax and share the meditative-like energy of the common space.
Of course patient privacy is respected at all times. All Community Room clients meet with our Acupuncturist in private for their initial consultation and are welcome to request a private follow up consult at any time. Of course, for those who prefer their treatments to be one-on-one, our Private Care room continues to be available.
